Synopsis Muslim Societies – Rise and Fall is the collections of several Articles by Dr. Mohammed Iqtedar Hussain Farooqi, a Scientist of repute. Though titled differently, all these articles have the common subject relating to the backwardness of Muslim Societies and ways and means to face these challenging situations. Publishing these articles in the book form would be definitely useful for those who are concerned with the problem and are trying to find out proper steps to come out from difficult situations.

These articles throw light on the Muslim Societies of the World with respect to their economic, political and technological backwardness, particularly as compared to the Christian Societies of the West. Discussing the Rise and Fall of Islam, Dr. Farooqi adopted similar yardsticks of backwardness of Ummah as found in the message of Sir Syed long ago. Thus, what ways Sir Syed suggested for the revival of Muslim superiority, still holds good today i.e.
“Philosophy in our right hand, Science in our left hand and Taj of Kalima on our Head” is the solutions for all the ills of Ummah.

Islam is the Religion which gives great emphasis on acquiring knowledge. Muslims followed and practiced Islamic injunctions for acquiring Knowledge for several centuries and led the world in practically every field of human development. But when they gave up those golden rules, they suffered heavily in terms of honour, power and economic prosperity. Now they are the most ignorant people with backwardness in all walks of life. Interestingly they have false pride of past glory and seem to be satisfied with it.

Islam considers the man as Khalifa (Viceregent) of Allah on Earth and, therefore, it urges quest for knowledge so as to make this earth a happier place to live. This activity is the part of Ibadah and any deviation from this temper and attitude is against the very spirit of Islam.

Dr. Farooqi has analyzed the problems of Muslims according to his own perception and knowledge and has suggested similar solutions proposed long back by Shah Waliullah, Allama Iqbal and Sir Syed. Without following these advices, revival of Ummah will remain a dream.

Sincere analyses of Dr. Farooqi in his writings and similar efforts by several other intellectuals for arousing interest of acquiring modern knowledge are timely and laudable. May God bless them for success in their pursuits (Amen).
