Synopsis

"This book is based on the original research of the authors, and highlights the ethnoveterinary medicinal importance of about 265 plant species belonging to 91 families. The plant species have been illustrated either by coloured photographys or line drawings. Ethnoveterinary herds have been described along with their latest valid botanical name, with vernacular names in use in the area covered; a systematic and brief botanical description; phenology giving the months of flowering and fruiting and ethnoveterinary medicinal uses. The book is profusely illustrated to aid recognition of herbs described in this work. An attempt has been made to name the tribe manking specific use and methods of preparation of the drug, dosage and duration have also been highlighted. Besides herbs, ethnoveterinary remedies based on animal and animal products and minerals are also given in the book.

About the authors

S.S. Katewa

Dr. S.S. Katewa, Associate Professor, Department of Botany, M.L. Sukhadia University, Udaipur, is Fellow of the “Society of Ethnobotanists” and an active researcher pursuing research in the fields of Ethnobotany, Ecology and Agrostology.  He has guided research under several research projects funded by the University Grant Commission, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Department of Science and Technology, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and Directorate of watershed Development and soil conservation, Govt. of Rajasthan.  Dr. Katewa has published more than 50 research papers in various National and International Journals.  He has produced more than 13 Ph.D.  He has been attending conferences, symposia and seminars in India and abroad.  He is the recipient of ‘Brandis prize’ for the year 1999 by Indian Forester and received “Best Poster Award” at a national symposium in 2001 by the Indian Society of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi.

Anita Jain

Dr. (Mrs.) Anita Jain is life member of the “Society of Ethnobotanists” and presently working as Research Associate in the Department of Botany, M.L. Sukhadia University, Udaipur (Raj.) in a CSIR funded project entitled” Studies on the folk herbal medicines of Southern Aravalli hills of Rajasthan”.  She obtained her doctorate degree in 2000 on “Systematic and ecological studies hills of Rajastan”.  She has published more than 15 research papers in National and International Journals.  She has been attending several National and International conferences in India and received “Young Scientist Award” for best oral paper presentation in National conference on Environmental Biology at Rajkot in 2002.
