All the genera and species within genera are arranged alphabetically. Each taxon is provided with currently accepted name, full citation, basionyms, and synonyms reported from India.

The information like habitat, distribution, chemistry and notes on known taxa, and habit photographs of most of the representative genera are also provided in this checklist to make it useful to all concerned. Besides, state-wise and region-wise published references on lichen taxonomy and floristic studies are provided. 12 new combinations and 15 new synonyms have been proposed in this book.

About the author

K.P. Singh

Dr. K.P. Singh (b. 21 July 1962) studied at the R.B.S. College, Agra,and completed M.Sc. in 1984 and Ph.D. in 1989. He joined the Department of Botany of the college as a Lecturer in 1989 and is presently a Senior Reader there. He has published 35 research papers in national and international journals and has edited tow books. Twelve of his students have already been awarded Ph.D. degrees and he is guiding eight others for their doctorate. He is a Fellow of the Indian Botanical Society, the Mendelian Society of Indian and the International society for Conservation of Natural Resources. He has been a member of the executive council of the Indian Botanical Society.
