Synopsis New technology offers opportunities both to expand and to limit the freedom to communicate and the opportunity to protect private life. They enables anonymous transactions over the internet so that individuals can obtain access to information and purchase products without disclosing actual identity. To safeguard the rights of privacy and freedom of expression in the digital age, it is necessary to reaffirm support for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, particularly Article12 and Article 19; promote the implementation of "Fair Information Practices" and the development of genuine privacy enhancing technologies; remove barriers to the free flow of information; and encourage the participation of Public Voice NGOs decisions concerning the future of the internet society.
