Relevance of Gandhi in 21st Century

Ashutosh Pandey (Editor)
Synopsis
Despite the plethora of literature on or about Gandhi, but still he is often misunderstood, misinterpreted, misrepresented, and usually labeled as outdated. To inspire the new generation, there is a continuous need for explaining, and restating the content, significance and relevance of Gandhian position on many issues w hich are of vital importance for the mankind.

Mahatma Gandhi was not primarily a political thinker, not even a political agitator. He was essentially a religious mankind man, a humanist and a man of action and intuition. The world can not easily forget a many sided person like Mahatma Gandhi who shunned delight and lived laborious days and who practiced truth and non-violence for over forty years of his life. He was multi-dimensional in his approach and left an indelible mark in religio-moral, socio-economic and political spheres. He dealt with the problems, which are timeless and universal because they spring from enduring weakness of human nature and human society. As an activist and a man of action, he practiced what is moral, truthful and non-violent after a thorough examination with great insight. Since the solution is to be found for them, were, based on these external principles, his philosophic ideas and ideals are progressively becoming significant and more relevant and needed than before.

In view of the above stated problem, a modest attempt has been made in this book to examine the process of degeneration of Indian polities, society and economy from value orientation to value lessens in the course of more than five decades. The answer to some of these questions, to some extent, can be found in the articles in this volume written by eminent scholars. An attempt has been made to discuss Relevance of Gandhi in present world, in general, and its impact on people, society and state, in particular. it is believe that the articles included in this book will throw some lights on different aspects related to Gandhian thought and be helpful in grasping the problems of Indian society to some extent.
