The book attempts to provide an overall basic information and practical applications on animal behaviour to undergraduate and postgraduate students of universities in India that would help in understanding the principles of animal behaviour and their implications.

The text has been sufficiently supplemented with figures, charts, diagrams and tables to facilitate understanding by the students. J P Shukla

Dr. J.P. Shukla (Reader), soon after Completing his M.Sc (Zoology), Joined research in 1978 in the department of Zoology, D D U Gorakhpur University in Professor's Pandey's lab and was awarded fellowships (JRF, SRF, PDF, & Research Associateship, C.S.I.R., New Delhi). Having roughly 25 years of teaching experience including sixteen month as Res. Associate in Gorakhpur University, Dr. Shukla has to his credit, published a number of research papers in journals of international and national repute like Env. Biol. Fish (Canada), Cell. Mol. Biol., Toxicol. Lett (Londo). Acta Pharmacol. Toxicol (Compenghagen), Acta Hydrochim at Hydrobiol (W.Germany) Archieves de Biol (Belgium) and several others. Dr. J.P.Shukla along with his mentor, Prof.K. Pandey, authored seven booksof high academic repute which have been published by leading publication house of the country. In recoginition of Dr. Shukla's scientific temper and academic superiority, he was invited to attend 4th international congress on Ecology in 1986 at state university, New York. He was also invited to assist in framing U.G.C. syllabi for the colleges and universities of U.P. Besides being the recipient of honorary fellowship awards of several learned scientific bodies of the country, he has also been awarded D.D. Gold Medal and Satellite Gold Medal by the Academic of Env. Biol., Poorvanchal Ranta by Mukta Foundation, best teacher award by Rotary club, Basti (U.P) and Congress of Zoology Medal by ZSI.
