Textbook of Veterinary Anaesthesia
Practice of veterinary anaesthesia in India is primitive and borders on the crudeness, rudeness and inefficiency. There is a priority of anaesthesia for horses in the western books, whereas in India priority is cows, buffaloes and bulls which most veterinarians here cater to. Also there is a town based practice in domestic animals, e.g. dogs and cats. The contents of this book have been selected according to this priority.
The first section of the book deals with the basic sciences, e.g. physiology and pharmacology of anaesthetic drugs. The second section covers various anaesthetic techniques, equipment and monitoring. The third section of the book deals with anaesthesia management in individual animals. Anaesthesia in animals in Zoological Parks and research animals is also discussed.
The last section has been written to increase the scope of this textbook so as to cater to the research workers in various scientific projects. Emergencies and complications arising during anaesthesia have been discussed to increase the margin of safety in veterinary anaesthesia.
The book aims to serve as a text and reference for the students and practitioners of veterinary sciences.
