Synopsis This study, as its title indicates, deals with cross-border trade of North-East India. For the sake of convenience, clarity and depth, it has been divided into four parts: (i) General, (ii) Retrospect, (iii) Prospect, and (iv) Resume and Recommendations. The first part consists of three papers which, as the title of the part shows, are of general nature. They introduce the subject and suggest the ways and means to tackle it properly for good results. The 12 write-ups in Part II discuss the past with a view to creating an effective comprehension of the present in the light of it. The Part III, consisting of 8 write-ups, deals with the future and familiarises us with the shape of things to come. The last write-up (24th) concludes the study. This study, it is hoped, will prove to be useful for scholars as well as the general public interested in the subject. The conclusions/findings presented here will, hopefully, help in improving the cross-border trading in our region by shedding useful light on several knotty problems and complex issues involved therein. The work is, thus, of regional as well as national and international importance.
