S H Raza was born in Madhya Pradesh and studied at J.J. School of Art Bombay. S H Raza is one of the founder members of the progressive artists group.S H Raza presented several exhibitions of his paintings in India, before leaving for France on a French government scholarship in 1950. He studied painting at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1950 to 1953. Raza was awarded the Prix de la Critique in Paris in 1956. The University of California, Berkeley, invited him as Visiting Lecturer at the Art Department in 1962. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris on a French Govt.scholarship. Raza's works can be found in NGMA, New Delhi, Musce National d'art Moderne, Paris, Musce de Menton, Bibliotheque National, Paris, Asia society, New York. S H Raza lives and works in Paris and Gorbio.

Geeti Sen is Chief Editor, Publications, India International Centre, New Delhi. She is a cultural historian, art critic, and the author of five major books on Indian art. She was conferred the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fellowship from 1998-2000.
