Applied Stress Analysis
Synopsis

This book is intended to give fundamental knowledge of the theoretical and experimental methods for stress analysis which could be attempted to solve problems both in the elastic and plastic range. This book has been divided into three parts.
Part 1: It deals with the basic equations of the Theory of Elasticity. Emphasis has been laid on the theoretical background of these basic equations. Number of problems have been solved to illustrate these basic equations. Also some of the simple problems of the Theory of Elasticity have been solved in rectangular Cartesian and Polar coodinates.
Part 2: It deals with fundamental relations of the Theory of Plasticity and most commonly used stress strain relations in the plastic range of ideally plastic materials and yield criteria. These have been further explained with the help of solved examples. Some of the simple problems of plastic yielding of beams, shafts, cylinders, spheres, rotating discs and cylinders have also been solved. Numerical problems have been solved to illustrate these solutions.
Part 3: Here, the Photoelastic method of stress analysis has been discussed in detail and most of the fundamenal relations have been derived. Brief reference has been made to the three-dimensional photoelastic method and birefrigent coating method. Experimental method of strain analysis like the Grid method, Moire method, Brittle lacquer method and the Strain-guage method are given along with some of the moderns methods of stress analysis.
