The Islamic World : Dynamics of Change and Continuity
The IOS Minaret , an online Islamic magazine, was launched by the Institute of Objective Studies in May 2006. The main objective of the website is to present the ideals and principles of Islam in the contemporary idiom and style, provide authentic, updated informational about Muslim communities located in different regions of the world, examine and analyze contemporary tends and issues from an Islamic perspective, and highlight the multifaceted contributions of the Islamic faith to the advancement and enrichment of human civilization. During the past five years, the website has been accessed by more than a million visitors, currently, it receives more than 50,000 hits a month.
The Islamic World : Dynamics of Change and Continuity is based on selected papers, essays and articles from the IOS Minaret from 2008 to February 2011. The essays covers a wide range of subjects and themes, including the Islamic worldview, the legacy of Islamic civilization in science and medicine, Islamic civilizations’ contribution to globalisation, Islamic legacy in medieval Spain and Venice and in contemporary European societies, the Islamic world in contemporary perspective, Muslim minorities, profiles of eminent Muslims in contemporary times and Muslims and the West.
The volume hopes to demonstrate that Islamic values and ideals continue to remain a perennial source of inspiration and guidance for Muslims around the world, that a perceptible current of ideational, normative and cultural unity pervades Muslim societies despite the evident ethnic, social and regional diversities, that Muslim societies around the world continue to vibrate with dynamism and resilience, and that Muslims are responding to contemporary challenges, not with resignation, defeatism or cynicism, but with resolve and optimism.
