Studies in Prehistory and Ethnoarchaeology of South Asia: In Honour of V.N. Misra
This book is different from the normal Felicitation volumes, which often, atleast in India, consist of indiscriminately collected articles. Instead, this volume has the gist of twenty-two updated Ph.D theses out of the twenty five completed under the guidance of Prof. V.N. Misra, former Director of the Deccan College Post Graduate and Research Institute. The area covered comprises India, Bangladesh and Nepal and the subjects covered are Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic, Chalcolitic, rock art, Harappan civilization, historical archaeology bronzes, ceramics, zooarchaeology and ethonoarchaeology. A volume of this kind is useful to all students of archaeology. It makes available to them the kind of research that has been carried out at the world famous Institute of Archaeology Deccan College. It will serve as a guide for writing high quality thesis on various themes of archaeology. The book contains the nodal work of some of the most established scholars in this field in South Asia in one place. Besides the 22 theses there are three papers related to Prof. V.N. Misra, which are of equally high academic quality. The first one, by the editor gives a biographical account of Prof. Misra as an archaeologist and human being. The second by P.P. Joglekar is an annotated bibliography Prof. Misra’s major research articles. The third is a critical evaluation of Prof. Misra’s position in the South Asian Archaeological context by K.K. Basa.
