This conceptual and illustrated book (with 39 colored pictures) is a novel approach towards providing a comprehensive and crisp knowledge of dermatology with Unani concepts and management. It is now strongly being felt that Unani medical literature needs to be provided in the universal English language in order to make it widely popular and acceptable. This present book is a sincere attempt in this direction. In a lucid language, the book is a perfect blend of Unani classical concepts as well as contemporary medical knowledge of dermatology with the intention of catering to the needs of undergraduate and post graduate students as well as practitioners.

The book has been divided into three sections. Section I is concerned with he general information of dermatology and includes the basis principles of Unani treatment in skin diseases. A special chapter regarding the concept of impure blood and blood purifiers has also been included. This chapter hopes to dispel some of the misgivings and wrong notions held against Unani medicine.

Section II of the book is concerned with skin diseases. In this section, those topics are accommodated that are mentioned in Unani classical literature and for which effective Unani treatment is available. A uniform format has been followed throughout the entire book for the description of every diseases to make the reading more pleasurable. Attempts have been made to synchronize the concepts of Unani mode of therapy (particularly aetio-pathogenesis) with the present medical knowledge wherever possible without tampering with the very essence of Unani classics. Since the metaphysical, entities and philosophical concepts of Unani medicine are not completely comprehended by modern medical science, therefore, at some occasions it was found difficult to equate or correlate these two. Under such circumstances, both the Unani as well as modern details are given separately and systematically so as to provide a parallel view at a glance. Besides the regular headings, a brief historical background with possible justification for the Unani nomenclature of the diseases has also been incorporated. Particularly newsworthy in the book is the therapeutic aspects which has been presented under sub headings viz principles of treatment, systemic treatment, local treatment and regimen.

Section III of the book includes miscellaneous topics like cutaneous manifestations of internal diseases. A detailed list of adverse reactions of chemotherapeutic agents related to skin is an additional and vital infusion. Finally a glossary of all those Unani drugs that have been mentioned in the book with English and scientific names makes the book more comprehensive and useful for the people from other medical fields as well.
