Industrial Relations in Asian Perspective: Trend and Transformation
Rapid globalization of national economies and the growth of multinational corporations throughout the world is forcing greater competitiveness and new approaches to the management of labour. Relatively less attention has been paid to how industrial relations systems have changed in the developing nations of Asia. Given that several Asian countries have been considerably changes in their industrial relations systems in the 1990s, the book attempts to understand the nature of the changes, and to evaluate whether or not they amount to fundamental transformations. The focus is on the managerial perspective, a perspective that is needed to understand the industrial relations issues, and generate alternatives for decision making e.g. the pros and cons of a grievance, procedure or those of workers participation in management. This book goes a long way towards bridging the gap between the various disciplines that constitute industrial relations. It represents a vital resource for undergraduate and postgraduate student so f industrial relations, practitioners of industrial relations taking IPD qualifications, and academics and researchers in the field.
