The East India Company was the first administration to start a policy of giving grants in aid to Schools being run by the private agencies. The woods despatch of 1854 was the first document on policy of education.
After the British Parliament tool over the administration of India direct in its hands, several acts were passed under various educational policies. The Hunters Commission was appointed in 1882 to review the existing system of education in India and to suggest reforms. Lord Curzon in his education policy made for reaching recommendations for improving the governance of Universities in India.
Lord Curzon was credited with the expansion of higher education in India.
In 1919 a commission was appointed by Govt. of India to review the working of Calcutta University and to have implications for other Universities of India.
These five volumes mainly dwell on the history of educational policies of India of those times.
