About the author

Swami Tapasyananda

Swami Tapasyanandaji Mahara] (1904- 1991), a Vice-president of the Ramakrishna Order, was a disciple of Swami Shiva- nandaji Maharaj, one of the eminent disciples of Sri Ramakrishna, and received Sannyasa from his Guru in 1932. For three decades he was head of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Trivandrum, and took over as President of the Chennai Centre in 1971.

He was an erudite scholar in both English and Sanskrit. He has written many books in English and also translated several important Hindu Scriptures into English. His translation of Srimad Bhagavatam in four volumes has been highly acclaimed in intellectual and devotional circles.
