Print and Broadcast Journalism
In today's world, Print and Broadcast Journalism sometimes compete with each other and sometimes collaborate with each other. Where print media is confined to books, magazines and newspapers, broadcast media is instant, uses images effectively and devastatingly. The print media uses a host of people with news reporters, stringers, editorial staff etc. The real challenge comes from broadcast media. In radio, the broadcaster remains unseen and only seen through the voice of the broadcaster, so he/she can broadcast with dishevelled hair or even spoilt clothes. Although the traditional use of radio broadcastis is one wane but the popularity of FM radio in India is on increase and FM channels are available in nearly every major Indian towns.
TV and electronic media journalism offers a different perspective to the presenter/broadcaster and viewer. Audio-video presentation with effective use of images enhances the quality of the journalism. The reporter/presenter has to be good looking, well dressed and charming as much as possible. Although studies in journalism overlap with communications, journalism focuses on the written product (e.g. newspaper reports, articles) whereas communications covers a broad range of publications from writing to broadcasting. As we study mass media and the effects produced on media consumers, we discover an incredible amount of what we know and how we behave is a direct product of our interaction with television, radio, print and computer mediated communication. This book tries to capture the nuances of print and broadcast journalism for the students and practitioners of mass media and journalism as a whole.
