Synopsis As a universal phenomenon and as a part of human society, conflict exists in every sphere of human life. Conflicts take place between individuals and organisations or groups, between distinct organisations and groups, between one organisation and one or more of its components or between component parts of a single organisation or group. A conflict emerges whenever two or more persons seek to possess the same object, occupy the same space or same exclusive position, play incompatible roles or undertake mutually incompatible means for achieving their purposes. The task of sociology, in this regard, is to cognize the nature and types of social conflict and find out the ways and methods of its resolution. Accordingly, this book attempts on a systematic exposition of conflict theory, major areas of social conflict, functions of conflict, its control and resolution.
