Female Foeticide in India: A Moving Trend
The present seminar proceeding entitled “Female Foeticide in India: A Moving Trend” brings out several research papers (in English , Hindi & Marathi Languages) deeply focusing on varied aspects of the problem of female foeticide in India. It encompasses some papers which discuss the phenomenon of female foeticide vis-a-vis its socio-cultural contexts, that is, attributing the problem to certain socio-cultural contexts and economic conditions operating in the country since long time. There are some papers which deal with socio-legal implications of the problem of female foeticide in India. When role of judiciary in eradicating the problem of female foeticide constitutes the focal point in certain papers, the feminist concerns and issues become the major points for discussion in certain others. Some papers included in the present volume very carefully examine the problem of female foeticide, showing their concerns for gender inequality as well as the growing challenge to women’s empowerment in India. On the whole, the papers compiled in the proceeding expose female foeticide as one of the most barbaric and brutal practices and thus an extreme form of manifestation of violence against women. The papers in general bring out several conclusive suggestions to get rid of the problem of female foeticide in society.
