The papers in this volume, presented at a national seminar, organized by the Centre for Air Power Studies, New Delhi, endeavour to analyse the role of Indian Air Force in the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971. Tracing the causes of the 1971 war, they review India’s interests and compulsions during the war.
Focusing on Indian war aims and objectives, the contributors discuss at length Pakistan’s military strategy, jointness in the war, higher defence organization, and Indo-Pak war in Eastern and Western theatres. They also provide a few analytical horizons on the background framework of Simla Agreement and certain events in the past that could have developed a different template for history.
