Synopsis

The emerging infomation world has thrown up many exciting possiblities like universal access, open access, collaboration across the globe, celebration of intellectual freedom, distance education and self-dirceted learning. A spectacular shlf we have witnessed in our LICs is the one from print media to digital content. This shift has offered us opportunities as well as challenges that are unique to the digital media. For instance, institutional repositories in universities have enbled them to mange and disseminate documents created by them perpetually for the benfit of scholars worldwide. Open access movement that is sweeping the globe has ushered in revolutionary changes in scholarly communication in the form of new document types such as e-books, e-theses, e-reports and e-journals. If we are able to successfully preserve our digital content, then we would be able to sustain our digital future.

This present collection of 55 article covers various facets of information management such as, digital libraries, institutional repositories, management of electronic resources, library classification and cataloguing, collection development, ICTs for LIS professionals and information literacy.

Penned by author hailing from different types of LICs such as public, academic, these articles attempt to portray both the present state-of-the art as well as indicate the emerging trends and scenarios. As the great people's poet Shri Kaloji Narayana Rao said one drop of ink has the power to stir a lakh of minds. Similarly, we hope that this collection stimulates thought and empowers the LIS professionals and teachers to understand the present situation and to meet the future challenges of information management with confidence.

This publication is expected to be a good addition to the LIS literature as it aims to provide a glimpse of the present state-of-the art in LICs and also offer potential solutions for the future. Therefore, it is recommended to LIS students, research scholars, faculty members and LIS professionals of all types of libraries.
