Ecosystems and Climate Change

S.K. Banerjee (Editor) T.K. Mishra (Editor)
Synopsis

Global climate change is a reality and it influences many complex and interrelated physical and biological systems. Recent climate change has already begun to affect species geographic ranges. The interaction between global climate change and regional deforestation may make tropical forests vulnerable to large scale degradation. The most recent report from International Union of Forest Research Organization suggests that in a warmer world, the current carbon regulating services of forests as carbon sinks may be entirely lost as land ecosystems could turn into a net source of carbon dioxide later in the century.

Contents: 1. Carbon flux and green India Mission/R.K. Mishra. 2. Forest health in changing climate regime/T.K. Mishra. 3. Carbon sequestration potential of planted species on mined land/S.K. Banerjee. 4. Sustainable management of non-timber forest species of Central India for adaptation and mitigation to climate change/U. Prakasham and S.K. Banerjee. 5. Impacts of climate on faunal biodiversity: Effects and adaptation/Aniruddha Mukhopadhyay and Priya Banerjee. 6. Application of geoinformatics in evaluating the effect of climate change on coastal ecosystem/Punarbasu Chaudhuri and Madhurima Bakshi. 7. Chhotanagpur plateau a sunset zone. Impact of globalization and changing climate on wild life habitat/Kisor Chaudhuri. 8.
