News is any new information which is presented by print, broadcast, internet, or word of mouth of a third party or mass audience, i.e. the reporting of current information on television and radio, and in newspapers and magazines. News reporting is the process of gathering information in a variety of ways, including tips, press releases, and witnessing events. News editing is the process of correction, condensation, organisation, and other modifications of the copy provided by the reporter.

This book is an information to reporting, writing and editing news and the basic elements of the news story. While concentrating on print, it explores story forms and reporting and editing skills common to all media, including online journalism. It also describes the way in which new technologies transformed the practice of journalism from news gathering to news presentation.
