Environmental Problems, Policies and Strategies

S.K. Srivastava (Editor) Jai Prakash (Editor)
Synopsis The problem of Environment has impelled the thinkers, scientists, social activists and other right thinking people to question the ongoing faceless development devoid of humane environmental order and environmental justice which had culminated in the world's worst chemical disaster ever faced by mankind after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It therefore generated a world wide awareness and concern about environmental dangers and urgent need of evolving appropriate technologies--scientific, legal, economic and social national use of earth sources in keeping with environmental needs of human, biotic and abiotic life. Air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution etc. are very dangerous for the mankind. Recently government has realised the importance of these pollutions but hardly any actions are being taken in this regard. The environmental conditions depend heavily upon the conditions and atmosphere of the places where environment damages have to be checked. This work, therefore, is a challenge as well as an answer to such exotic and destructive development. Its seminal significance lies in its presentation exposition and evaluation of development standards at the national and global level by closely X-raying and screening the Indian launae, especially political, legal, judicial and administrative. Since as far back as we know, all religions of the world propagated that a clean environment was fundamental to the growth of community, both for its individuals or collectively in their endeavours. The objective was not purely religious, but to underline and ensure proper regard for environmental bounties like earth, air, water, etc., whose utilization was ordained to be done judiciously and with universal approval. Development and environment have been the issues at debate ever since industrialization brought in quick prosperity to the western world. Development and environment need not be looked upon contradictions but as complementaries. Both propose reasonable parameters to each other. Both are necessary for growth of human society, and of nations. A balanced and buoyant environment is fundamental not only for continued development efforts, but also for ensuring quality of life. This interdependence has to be properly understood and practised. And that is possible through a pragmatic blend of urgency for development and the need to preserve the environment. Keeping in view the above facts this book has been prepared which will surely be useful to researchers, policy framers, and planners. There may be many questions and the answer lies in evolving an enlightened view through enhanced awareness.
