Encyclopaedia of Buddhism: A World Faith (Volume II)

M.G. Chitkara (Author)
Synopsis World peace is myth; it is a kind of mirage. We have never acheived it. And because we have never acheived peace, it is a real necessity that we look into all avenues of creating peace. Many of the world's problems and conflicts arise because we have lost sight of the basic humanity that binds us all together as a human family. We tend to forget that despite the diversity of race, religion, ideology and so forth, people are equal in their basic wish for peace and happiness. In the strife-torn world today, the message of Lord Buddha holds great relevance. He wanted to lift not only man but the entire human race above and beyond the fear, ignorance and isolation which beset him in his path of life. The world is in dire need of peace. Peace, that is, spreading harmony, universal brotherhood, love, compassion, forbearance, equanimity and breeding solace in interpersonal relationships, and then in international relationships.
