R.D. Gupta, M.Sc. and Ph.D. (Agriculture), is a well-known soil scientist and environmentalist, having specialization in soil microbiology and pedology, and in wildlife of Pir Panjal Himalayan region of Jammu and Kashmir. He did his postgraduate diploma in ecology and environment from Indian Institute of ecology and Environment, New Delhi. Starting his Professional career as Assistant Extension Specialist (Soil science) in Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana in 1968, Prof. Gupta served as Associate Professor, Deputy Director, extension education (Training) in Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishwavidyalaya and Shere-Kashmir university of Agricultural science and Technology, before he was elevated as Chief scientist, KVK and head SKUAST, regional Agricultural research Station, R.S. Pura, Jammu. Later, he served as Founding Associate dean, faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST, Jammu; and Head, Divisions of Agricultural Chemistry, and soil Science, and agro-forestry. He has to his credit over 100 research papers and a book, entitled, problems and management of Soil and Forest Resources of Northwest Himalayas.
