Flora of Kurnool: Andhra Pradesh
Synopsis
The present book is principally meant for the general reader who wants to recognise plants without being equipped with botanical Jargon and vocabulary. Kurnool district, often called "Gateway of Rayalaseema", enriched with highly varied angiosperm diversity due to wide range of vegetation types and undulated topography. Though this district lies in the heart of famine zone, the eastern corner of the district, called Nallamalais and western Yerramalais exhibit floral diversity of about 1065 species. Environmental education, and particularly the dissemination of the conservational message, requires general recognition and utilisation of plants even by non specialists. The usage of local vernacular names is specially meant for this. Families are arranged in the modified Bentham and Hooker sequence followed in the Kew and the Indian herbaria, especially in the national and provincial floras. Genera within the family and species within the genus are given in alphabetical order. Artificial keys (indented keys) are provided at each level of separation for easy identification. A comprehensive index gives the names of families, genera and species (correct names and synonyms) at the end.
