Economy and Society in Globalizing Gujarat
This compendium of 14 papers, presented at a seminar held at the Centre for Culture and Development, Vadodara, attempts to examine the nature of changes in the economy and society of post-liberal Gujarat and also to what extent it illustrates the growth centric India of tomorrow. It critically analyses the developmental model of Gujarat with reference to infrastructural development in the fields of water resources, transport, communication and industry.
Taking a close look at the rising globalization in Gujarat, it also discusses the other aspects of development such as the cost of growth, stability in agriculture, role of industrialization, labour conditions, changing status of women, access to higher education amongst tribal, development of Dalits and Muslims, social groups, condition of oil and gas, ports, tourism and information technology in Gujarat. The negative side of development resulting in uneven regional growth, ecological imbalance and destruction of natural resources make part of the book as well.
