Economy, Education and Insurgency in the Northeast India
The papers presented at a seminar deal with the economy and social problems of North-east India and view the growth of insurgency in that context. They probe the linkage between economic development, poverty and education with specific reference to education of women, girls’ age at marriage and employment concerns. They view the impact of insurgency on economic and educational security and ways to counter such insecurity as by using vernacular language as the medium of instruction. They throw light on problems relating to provision of compulsory elementary education and education reforms involving revamping of higher education. They analyse India’s Look East Policy with special attention to challenges for Mizoram.
