There are gradual changes in the status of tribal women as a result of modernisation. Even though there is much advancement in the field of education, a large majority of tribal women remain tradition bound. A women's status is largely associated with the family she hails from. A woman with qualities of a good dancer, a good singer, a weaver and a spinner and an excellent folk-lore teller are always loved and respected.

Yeshwant Gedam

Dr. Yeshwant Gedam, I.A.S. (Maharashtr Cadre- 2002) has his M.S.W. in Social Work from Tirpude College of Social Work, Nagpur and has his Ph.D. from Nagpur University. He hails from Gadchiroli District, which is predominantly tribal district. He himself belongs to tribe. He started his career as a direct recruit Deputy Collector of 1985 batch and worked in the interior areas of all the districts in Vidarbha Region.

He is a life member of I.I.P.A., New Delhi and occasionally writes articles on tribes, few of which articles have been published in Tribal Research Bulletin, Pune. Presently he is working as a Deputy Secretary, Department of Cooperation, Marketing & Textiles, Government of Maharashtra, Mantralaya, Mumbai.
