The Political Economy of Indian Ocean Maritime Africa
The outcome of an international conference held at Nairobi in March 2014, the volume is an attempt to discuss and evaluate Indian Ocean Maritime Africa’s (IOMA) changing geo-economic and geo-political linkages to other Indian Ocean Rim States. The contributions view the evolving nature and significance of IOMA, the geopolitics of official development assistance in Indian Ocean Africa, maritime security and its impact in the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) region. The spotlight is on the region’s link with other countries such as the African countries’ economic relationships, including a focus on trade and investment, with Indian Ocean Rim States, and China’s presence in the East African countries. They specifically take up India-Tanzania trade and investment flows and India’s other concerns. They shed light on the multi-facteted and multi-sectoral potential of Africa, demonstrating the progress in maritime research and analysing the prospects for cooperative regional maritime environment.
