Synopsis The subfamily Greenideinae is one of the little known subfamily of Aphidoidea, largely restricted to south and southeast Asia. In this volume a total of ten genera and eightyfour species and subspecies have been dealt with from Indian region. Information on biology for many of the species remain far from being complete and to fill up this lacuna results of investigations from other regions have been often been incorporated. Aphidoidea forms one of the most important group of phytophagous insects because of thier polymorphism, host alternating-heteroecious behaviour, reproductive habits and above all for thier role as the largest group of insect vectors of plant viruses. The Fauna of India and the adjacent countries in this group, consitutes about 16% of the world fauna, including a large number of rare, endemic species. However, no consolidated account of Indian aphids was so far available and the present work was started in 1976 and has been so planned as to be published in several parts. The first part published in 1980 deals with an introductory chapter on Aphidoidea leading to subfamily Chaitophorinae. The second part deals with subfamily Lachninae, the third part deals with subfamily Pemphiginae, and fourth part deals with subfamilies Phloemyzinae, Anoeciinae, and Hormaphidinae and the fifth part deals with subfamily Drepanosiphinae. The present sixth part deals with subfamily Greenideinae. The entire superfamily is expected to be covered under seven separate parts. Besides taxonomic accounts, information on host plant association, association with ants, natural enemies of aphids, distribution, etc., are also provided in these parts.
