Recent Researches in Geology ( Volume 15)
Synopsis
The rapid expansion of the mining industry in the wake of liberalisation and globalisation of economy and attendant mineral policy changes has, in the recent years, brought into sharp focus the stringent need for undertaking environmental management measures as integral part of mine-planning and mining at all stages of operations. This book is for the growing number of people who seek to learn, update and practise the mineral development alongwith the protection of the mining environment in the light of the above-stated realisation. The book is a collection of 45 selected, original, highly informative research papers, review articles and case-studies on the environmental aspects of mineral development, underground as well as opencast mining, mineral beneficiation and utilisation, EIA and environmental management including land reclamation, waste disposal and utilisation. They were presented at the international conference on 'Mineral Development and Environment' organised by Indian School of Mines at Dhanbad during November 28-30, 1991. It is hoped that the book will be useful to the geoscientists and engineers serving the mineral and mining industries, research, academic and consultancy organisations, regulatory authorities, and the students of mining environmental science and engineering.
