Imperial Kushanas in Uttar Pradesh
This is a detailed study of Kushana coins, inscriptions and archaeological material with specific reference to the state of Uttar Pradesh. It presents a historical background of the Kushanas and scrutinises the Kushana coins found in select museums of the state supported by many illustrations of the numismatic material. It deals with the distribution of the coins and the information they provide on Kushana settlements and their material culture, focusing on some 70 excavated sites and providing a list of 709 explored sites in the state. It shows that the coins throw light on various aspects of Kushana polity, economy and socio-religious life, such as the prosperity under the Kushanas and the strength of the Kushana monetary system. It points out that the coins were significant as an instrument of expression and dissemination of ideas.
