Synopsis This book offers an assessment of the performance of the large and medium textile industries in India, based on a case study of Orissa. While measuring the productivity of the textile industries in the organized sector, it throws light on profit and employment in the textile industries in the state and examines their prospects in the light of the demand for and supply of the textile products. As a prelude to the measurement of factor productivity, the book discusses the concept and methods of measurement of productivity and highlights and nature and pattern of industrial development in Orissa. Based on empirical studies, the book delineates the problems of textile industries – financial, infrastructural and organizational, and offers valuable suggestions for their solutions.
